Glimmer Gets Her Storybook Ending, from Pets In Need Redwood City

Glimmer with his foster family.

I just left my foster family's home yesterday. Here's a picture of me with them in the yard at Pets In Need.

Their house was cozy and familiar, and I always felt safe there. When I was with them, I remembered how far I'd come. They gave me a soft space to land when I needed it most. A calm space. Steady routines. Time to breathe, learn, and trust again. Every time I visited them, I left feeling stronger.

Today, I'm back at PIN in Redwood City. The shelter is quiet for now, but it won't be for long. I hear sounds of the morning starting. Doors unlocking. Voices carrying down the hall.

Then I hear someone say, "Today is the day." I don't know what that means yet. But then I meet them....

Bart and Susan

Glimmer in training.

When they first walk in, I don’t realize they are here for me. I only know that something feels different. They move slowly and gently. Their hearts are still tender. They recently lost two beloved dogs, and their small senior poodle at home has grown quiet and sad. They were not sure they were ready, but something brought them here anyway. To meet me.

Susan has seen my photo online. She told me later that my two different colored eyes reminded her of the dogs she loved and lost. The ones who taught her what unconditional love feels like. She saw something familiar in me. Something worth believing in.

And when Susan came to meet me, I was ready.

Never Give Up on Your Dream

Glimmer at Pets in Need training.

465 days of patience, training, and believing. For all those 465 days, I had an entire team who never stopped believing in me.

Britney worked with me every single day, teaching me that the world could be safe. Rachel walked beside me with endless patience. My foster family gave me consistency, comfort, and a place to practice being myself. Every staff member rooted for me. Every person talked about my perfect match like it was inevitable, not impossible.

They all saw something in me worth fighting for. Worth believing in.

When I meet Bart and Susan, I walk right up and nudge Susan's hand with my nose. She smiles. Bart laughs as I bring toy after toy, my tail wagging so hard my whole body wiggles.

I can feel it. This is different. This feels right.

When they decide to adopt me, Susan kneels down and looks into my eyes.

Welcome home, Glimmer

Glimmer with his new forever family.

After 465 days of waiting, I am officially home.

Now my mornings start beside their bed, waiting patiently for them to wake up so I can shower them with kisses. I spend my days chasing squirrels in the backyard. I will never catch them, but I will never stop trying. In the evenings, I curl up on the couch with Susan.

I am part of a family again. One that chose me.

They tell me I have brought magic back into their home. But I know the truth.

Because of your support, Pets In Need could say yes to training, yes to foster care, and yes to patience. Yes to believing that some animals need a little more time and care to find themselves before they can find their forever family. The staff knew Bart and Susan were out there, and they worked tirelessly to prepare me for my new life with them.

I am home now. And because of this community, I was not the only one.

Thank you for never giving up on me. Thank you for supporting my friends at Pets in Need. And thank you for making my storybook ending possible.

With love,

Glimmer
